Matt Twiddler’ Robinson

Nick name for the challenge and why?

My name for the challenge will be Twiddler! Its a nick name I got from my junior days at cyclo cross as I always spun my legs fast and I think it will fit in perfectly for this challenge as I will definitely have to “twiddle” up Ventoux to achieve it 19 times!

Why are you doing this challenge?

I have always wanted to take part in the other Ultra6 challenges, but due to not being able to run I couldn’t, but as this is just cycling I can! Having raced from a very young age, this is a new challenge for me, and I am able to be a part of something special which makes use of my experience as an athlete! I want to raise money for a very good cause, but most importantly ride with my mates as a team to set a world record!

How long have you been cycling?

I have been riding since I was very young and started competing from the age of 11 in local cyclo cross races, moving onto national level races, and then competing in mountain bike races during the summer months. I now do road racing.

What are your strengths on the bike?

I am an all rounder on the bike – I climb well, descend well, and have a very good all round endurance level.

What is / are your key achievements in cycling / sport?

I have achieved a lot during my cycling career, winning the North of England cyclo cross championships as a junior and the Yorkshire points series.  I also finished second overall in the National Trophy series and rode for Great Britain in world cups and the world championships in Denmark! I have raced for Yorkshire on the road at national level, finishing fourth in the Yorkshire road race championship and won numerous races on the road.

What fears / challenges do you think you will have to overcome on the mountain to achieve the Race to Space?

I’m not scared of much about this challenge without being big headed! I think its very achievable as long as we ride sensibly. Obviously the weather is going to be the biggest factor, but that’s out of our control so no point in worrying about that! If we all go and do our best that’s all we can do – even if we don’t achieve our goal we will have fun trying!
